Foldable iPhone? huh WHYY!? According to Bloomberg, Apple has started "early work" on an iPhone with a foldable display, but the company has not yet committed to releasing a foldable device. Rumors suggest a foldable could come as early as 2024, but that 2025 is a more likely target date.

Overall, the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ is shaping up to be a fairly significant upgrade over the ‌iPhone 13‌, with new features and improvements across multiple key areas. Providing the above enhancements are delivered as expected, some ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ users could justify upgrading to the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌, while customers coming from an older model could have good reason to preference the latest "Pro" model over the ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌. The replacement of the notch with the "pill and hole-punch" results in a fairly different front appearance, while the 48-megapixel camera, always-on display, upgraded front-facing camera, and emergency satellite features could offer meaningful changes. This comes in addition to a large number of smaller improvements to the device's performance, memory, battery life, Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras, and Wi-Fi connectivity. While the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ models could see a slight price increase this year, the new models offer significant upgrades and price rises could be justified if the devices start with more storage. Apple is reportedly planning to unveil the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ models at an Apple event on Wednesday, September 7 with the tagline "Far out." Pre-orders for the device will likely begin later that week, with the first devices probably arriving to customers around Friday, September 16. As such, there is now not long to wait for the new "Pro" ‌iPhone‌ models. The ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max are likely to be discontinued upon the release of the new models, which will subsequently slash prices with third-party resellers – so it is clearly preferable to avoid purchasing either of these devices at the current time.

Editor's note, 30 August The iPhone 14 launch is just over a week away, as Apple has set Wednesday, September 7 as the date for its next launch event. Even now we're so close we're still learning new things about the phones, with the latest leak pointing to an improved ultra-wide camera on the Pro models. Beyond the iPhone 14 itself we're expecting to see the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max of course, along probably with an iPhone 14 Max - though oddly one recent leak points to an iPhone 14 mini instead. We're skeptical of that though, as all other signs point to a Max. It probably won't just be iPhones that we see either, with the Apple Watch 8 and Apple Watch 8 Rugged Edition likely making an appearance too, while new iPads could get their own event in October, going by recent leaks.

With the iPhone 14 launch event fast approaching, rumors are becoming more and more concise and the latest one comes from trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will reportedly feature new ultrawide camera sensors that can capture 1.4µm pixels. This should result in more detailed shots and better low-light performance. For reference, the current iPhone 13 Pro duo capture 1.0µm pixels with their ultrawide cameras. The new CMOS imaging sensor will be joined by a new voice coil motor (VCM) and a new compact camera module. All of these components will be up to 70% more expensive than the ones found in the outgoing iPhone 13 Pro models. Kuo believes Sony will supply the CMOS sensors while Minebea and Largan will take care of the VCM. LG is touted as the main compact camera module supplier. In addition to the new ultrawide module, the iPhone 14 Pro series is also expected to bring a 48MP primary camera that uses 4-in-1 pixel binning. The resulting images should offer more color-accurate shots and better low-light performance. The front cameras on both 14 Pro models will receive a big update with autofocus and a bright f/1.9 aperture.
