The Verdict No matter if you’re looking to find something to keep you occupied, or want to try something out that you normally would never experience, NBA 2K23 does a killer job of opening the floor to those that are new to the franchise, or those returning for their umpteenth time. With gorgeous visuals that help solidify this as one of the best-looking games of the generation so far, to controls that let you feel like a pro, there’s very little to complain about here. The City offers one of the most surreal experiences for gamers out there, and with the “Ball is Life” mentality of everything going on in the MyCareer mode, you’ll either have the greatest time of your life or cringe your way through it as you work to make the best player that the NBA has ever seen. A yearly sports title can rarely make this kind of an impact, but if the team behind NBA 2K23 can keep putting on the polish, we may see the absolute pinnacle coming in the next few years. It’s incredible to see the amount of work that has gone into this game, and while the normal stigma of “roster updates” should be long gone, let 2K23 show you that it can be more than that, as you’ll find plenty of welcome changes that can make your basketball dreams come true. A few small portions of this game hold it from reaching full G.O.A.T. status, it’s easily the best sports game to come out this year, and can only get better from this point forward.

The gameplay consists of run and gun elements as well as in later releases shoot 'em up mechanics. The run and gun pits a player against a large numbers of enemies with extremely powerful weapons pick-ups. In most run and guns, contact with an enemy leads to damage. In this series, however, contact results in the opportunity to perform a melee attack and the opportunity for the enemy to perform a melee attack of his own, if he has one. The player's melee attack is also much stronger than most shots. This leads to the players ability to run in and use melee attacks to take down a number of enemies at once, as well as the ability to quickly defeat enemies that can take plenty of damage, such as the mummies in Metal Slug 2. The player starts with only a simple semi-automatic handgun (Metal Slug 6 and 7 used a fully automatic handgun in place of the stock semi auto first used in every game including spin off); as the game progresses, the player may pick up new weapons. The player can only use one weapon at a time. When a new weapon is found, it replaces the previous one. Similarly, when ammunition runs out, the player reverts to using the handgun, which has unlimited ammunition. A new system was implemented with Metal Slug 6 allowing players to carry and switch between the handgun and two other weapons. The player is also equipped with grenades which can be used to throw at enemies and cause more damage, however the number of grenades is limited and must be replenished periodically with ammunition found along the way.

NBA 2K23 Overalls: Predicting the 5 Best Teams 5. Philadelphia 76ers (85 OVR) Projected Starting 5: James Harden Tyrese Maxey Tobias Harris PJ Tucker Joel Embiid Kicking off the list is the Philadelphia 76ers, who brought over several of Harden's old Houston running mates in hopes of making it out of the second round for the first time since 2001. Additionally, the Sixers added former Grizzlies' guard De'Anthony Melton to bolster a bench that has a solid balance of shooting and defense. Of course, Philly's success will ultimately be determined by how in-form Harden and Embiid are next year. 4. Milwaukee Bucks (86 OVR) Projected Starting 5: Jrue Holiday Grayson Allen Khris Middleton Giannis Antetokounmpo Brook Lopez The 2020-21 NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks slot in at four, having a relatively drama-free offseason so far as compared to the rest of the Eastern Conference powerhouses. With perhaps the biggest addition for the Bucks being Joe Ingles, there really aren't too many question marks surrounding this team outside of Middleton maybe starting off slow after undergoing left wrist surgery in early July. 3. LA Clippers (87 OVR) Projected Starting 5: John Wall Paul George Kawhi Leonard Marcus Morris Sr. Ivica Zubac Perhaps the hardest team to project heading into the new season are the LA Clippers, who appear primed to finally reunite their "213" star duo in Leonard and George. On paper, it's clear that the Clippers are one of, if not the, deepest teams in the league. The only question is: Can they stay healthy? 2. Boston Celtics (87 OVR) Projected Starting 5: Marcus Smart Jaylen Brown Jayson Tatum Al Horford Robert Williams III The reigning Eastern Conference champions slide in at No. 2. Adding Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari to a historically great defensive squad from last season, the Boston Celtics are in great shape to do damage out east again. Of course, striking out on a reported blockbuster Kevin Durant deal wasn't the best look, but there are no signs of this young core slowing down anytime soon. 1. Golden State Warriors (88 OVR) Projected Starting 5: Stephen Curry Klay Thompson Andrew Wiggins Draymond Green Kevon Looney
