Jordan Brand has regularly paid homage to Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina, with special colorways of Air Jordan Retros.
These past recent years, the "UNC" color scheme of blue and white has found itself donning some of the Swoosh's most popularsilhouettes, from the Air Jordan 1 High to Jordan 3 and 4 to the Dunk High and Low.
This year, the resurgence of the iconic Air Jordan 6, featuring the Travis Scott collaboration, and revival of iconic retro silhouettes such as the “Electric Green“, “Midnight Navy” and “Motorsports”
models. It now seems the momentum will carry on to 2022 as a new iteration of the highly coveted Air Jordan 6 “UNC” Retro is rumored to release prior to March Madness.
This high top bears heavy resemblance to the color-blocking patterns of the Jordan 6 “Carmine” designed by the fabled Tinker Hatfield, the shoe pays homage to Michael Jordan‘s alma mater at the University of North Carolina.
Dressed in the signature UNC color blocking of University Blue, White, College Navy, and Black. This Air Jordan 6 features a University Blue nubuck base with White leather overlays and Navy detailing throughout. Finishing off the design will be a woven jock tag stitched on the heels atop an icy translucent outsole.
A “TEAM” Jordan patch is seen on the heel corresponding to school-inspired releases such as the “Michigan” and “Oregon” Air Jordan 5s. It’s worth noting that the pair pictured above is a mock-up and the final release version may be vastly different.
Secondary hits of navy blue adorn the midsole, lace toggle, heel tab, and Air Jordan branding at the midfoot. Icy blue outsole portions then provide the finishing touches you'd expect from any Air Jordan 6.
We absolutely cannot wait to get our hands on these J6 and I am pretty sure, collectors and resellers will definitely cop this UNC gem. Hopefully, UNC can make another appearance in the Final Four for 2022.
Enjoy the on-feet images for your own pleasure.
