11 years ago, I was looking for a Kobe Bryant Sneakers and became a Nike fan because of him.
For me, any Lakers colorway and Kobe sneakers is all I wanted as I'll play it also for hoops.
When I came into the Nike Park store at Festival Mall Alabang, I saw two shoes of my choice.
I wasn't sure if that's Kobe 5 or 4s, but the other choice that I wanna buy is the Nike KD 2 in Lakers Colorway.
When my dad bought my choice, after it had been paid, I realized that it's Kevin Durant's shoes and not Kobe's because of the logo.
It's still a beautiful shoe and I used it a lot for hooping it. But I said to myself that I will grab those Kobe's soon because I love Kobe Bryant. And at the start of that, I became obsessed with Sneakers because of Kobe.
That was the time I learned how to browse at the Nike Website, watch Youtube videos.
I was in First Year Highschool back then, and my daily allowance is just 150 Pesos. Me and my dad had a deal in shoes, that whatever the price will be, he'll pay the 50% and the other half of the price is my expense.
On that whole Highschool Year, I learned how to save money to buy Sneakers, and in my whole Highschool Years, I was able to buy 5 sneakers:
- KD 2
- Jordan Fly Wade 2
- Kobe 7 System Supreme Concord
- Nike Hyperdunk 2012
- Crazy Light 3
The year 2012 was the Prime of the NBA, and for me the Prime of Basketball Sneakers.
But now in 2020-2021, I was able to have Kobe 5 Bruce Lee's, and Kobe 6 Protro Del Sol's, which I never had back in my Highschool years.
At that time, I also watched Weartesters and became a Fan. His channel back then was nightwing2303 from kicksoncourt.com and on that channel and page, I learned a lot about the technologies and how the shoes should perform and fit.
Up until now, I'm still a fan of him and watch his reviews of sneakers.
Sneakers have taught me so well on how to be patient, and gave me hope that given a little amount of daily allowance, I can still buy it.
It teaches me that if I have a bigger dream (like buying my own house, car, and building my own family), it's possible and being a Sneakerhead taught me that.
Being a sneakerhead isn't that bad. You just need to know also how to use it AS A GIFT, and not abuse it.
Always remember, being a sneakerhead is not lux, or a curse. IT'S A GIFT!
Calling all Sneakerheads out there like me, use it as a gift! Reflect on your own story on how you became a sneakerhead and make it as a motivation everyday on why you love sneakers to make your life better!*
