The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Wrangles a 'Wheat' Colourway The undeniably retro Nike Air Griffey Max 1 has wrangled a ‘Wheat’ colourway, giving it quite the different look to its usual renditions. In recent times, we’ve seen the high-top dressed in ‘Fresh Water’ and ‘Varsity Royal’, but this one rocks a similar vibe to the ‘Flax’ release that hit back in 2016. Currently making the most of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the Air Griffey Max 1 debuted in 1996 and was designed as a homage to baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. Noticeably inspired by the cleats that Griffey Jr. wore on the diamond during his glittering baseball career, the silhouette quickly became a popular cross training option when that whole phenomenon was taking the world by storm back in the mid- to late-90s. While the images above are of a GS-sized pair, it’s hoped the eventual release will include a full size range, with the scheme expected to be especially popular in the northern hemisphere as they approach Fall and the colder months of Winter.
