Jordan Brand is set to honor Mexico and its Independence Day with the upcoming Air Jordan 5 “El Grito” this fall. Named after the iconic El Grito de la Independencia ("Cry/Shout of Independence"), the shoe pays tribute to Mexico's history. In 1810, priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla initiated the Mexican War of Independence with a call to arms in Dolores, Mexico. Every September 16th, Mexico's president echoes Hidalgo's call from the balcony overlooking the Zócalo, commemorating the fallen heroes with "¡Viva México!" and the national anthem. The Air Jordan 5 “El Grito” is rumored to feature a diffused taupe upper with dark pony and apple green accents. Sources suggest a sail upper with red, green, and burgundy details, along with a mismatched design resembling the Mexican flag on the shark teeth. This release promises to blend cultural homage with Jordan Brand's iconic style.
