Shawn Stussy Says He's Coming Out of Retirement The streetwear heavyweight said he has a few projects in the works. Shawn Stussy has subtly shared that he’s coming out of retirement on Instagram. On Monday, the Stüssy founder posted a photo of himself, teasing a few new projects. Prior to editing the caption, Stussy posted the quote, “a young horse is fast, but the old horse know what’s going on… the young horse may win the race, but the old horse stay out so long,” along with writing that it’s a “big round number year” for him and that he’s “engaged with a couple projects out and about.” He also wrote that “retirement is nice, but [it’s] time to engage for a long ride into the future.”Later that day, Stussy edited the caption, leaving the quote but adding the context that it’s not his birthday, as many commentators had been wishing him happy birthday. He also deleted the portion about his new projects. Stussy resigned from his namesake brand back in 1996 and sold his shares to his friend and partner in the business, Frank Sinatra Jr. He returned in the 2010s to launch the now-defunct brand, S/Double. It’s safe to assume that Stussy isn’t reuniting with the eponymous brand but rather creating something under his own imprint or working on a collaboration.
