The new Nike SB Dunk High “Strawberry Cough” will be this year’s 4/20 SB Dunk.
Designed by artist Todd Bratrud, who also worked on the classic “Skunk” Dunks and “White Widow” SB Dunk Mid, the “Strawberry Cough” gets a nod to a popular strain of marijuana.
Known for its sweet smell of fresh strawberries and an expanding sensation that can make even the most seasoned consumer cough, Strawberry Cough is a potent strain with mysterious genetic origins. The skunky, berry flavors will capture your senses while the cerebral, uplifting effects provide an aura of euphoria that is sure to leave a smile on your face. Strawberry Cough is a great solution in times of elevated stress.” — Damn, no wonder it’s a popular option for smokers the world over — so much so that this year the fan-favorite marijuana strain.
The shoe features a textured red upper with green suede overlays, giving it the appearance of an actual strawberry, finished off by a translucent outsole. A coughing strawberry logo adorns the heels and insoles.
The anthropomorphic strawberry still dresses the heel, coughing atop a green-dyed, hairy suede backdrop. The Swoosh adjacent complements with the same texture and color, while the stem-like heel pull and collar tonally match in what looks to be felt and nylon, respectively. Forward, the bright reds are applied to two different leather textures.
Decking out the forefoot in a strawberry textured finish, while ganja-like suedes grace the heel overlays and Swooshes. Collars arrive in plush green valor — also in reference to sweet Mary Jane — and it’s all wrapped up with a translucent-blue sole unit. Completing the design is a coughing
strawberry character embroidered on the lateral ankle, a motif that appears again over the insoles. It will likely arrive with special-edition packaging, but that is yet to be sighted.
Pairs were originally expecting a 4/20 release (2020) date but with the ill-timed COVID crisis and the unfortunate naming of the pair, Nike has decided to shift the release this October to SNKRS and local retailers as well as skate shops.
