Just like ordinary folk, celebrities often turn to sneakers for comfort.
During a funeral service for former president Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City on June 25, netizens can’t help but admire the sneakers worn by Kris Aquino and her sons Josh and Bimby.
In their matching black outfits, the sneakers look comfy and classy on the Aquinos, some netizens commented.
A local fashion expert who refused to be named said that Kris and her sons wore Gucci Rhyton Fluo Yellow sneakers.
The stylish sneakers, priced at US$770.00.00 (roughly P36,000), were launched in 2019.
After the assassination of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on Aug. 21, 1983, the color yellow has been adopted by the opposition.
The same color was suggested in reference to the No. 1 song “Tie A Yellow Ribbon (Round the Old Oak Tree)” by Tony Orlando and the Dawn in 1973, for Ninoy’s homecoming.
Ninoy, husband of the late former president Cory Aquino, is the father of Kris and Noynoy. The color yellow also became the standard color of Cory when she ran in the snap elections.
Marred by fraud, the results of the snap polls paved the way for Cory to call for civil disobedience. This led to the popular EDSA People Power.
Following a peaceful revolution, Cory was catapulted into power as she emerged as the first female president of the Philippines. The non-violent revolt also ended the two-decade rule of president Ferdinand E. Marcos.
However, some netizens said that Kris and her sons were wearing Balenciaga Triple S sneakers.
“The Balenciaga sneaks are more expensive than the Gucci shoes. Worth 850 Euros per pair, it’s P49,252.36 when converted to Philippine peso,” one of the netizens explained.
The netizens added that the color of the Balenciaga sneakers is fluorescent green.
