Another piece of Kobe Bryant’s legacy has made headlines, as his personal locker from the Staples Center has just been sold for a whopping $2.9 million, making it the most valuable sports locker ever sold at auction.
This locker, which witnessed Bryant’s career from the 2003-2004 season until his retirement in 2016, has been a silent witness to his two championship seasons (2008-2009 and 2009-2010), two Finals MVPs, and countless memorable moments.
Brahm Wachter from Sotheby’s said, “This locker is more than a collectible; it’s a piece of basketball history. The high price reflects Kobe’s legendary status and the unique value of this item.”
The locker was saved by a maintenance worker during a Staples Center renovation in 2018 and later purchased by a collector who also got Bryant’s original nameplate. A portion of the sale will support The Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation, continuing Kobe Bryant’s legacy of giving back.
As more Kobe memorabilia likely makes its way to auction, the impact of his career and the Mamba Mentality will remain an essential part of basketball’s history.
