Slip-on, laceless footwear options are almost as old as time, but the last two years have seen the category explode in popularity and diversity. To kick off 2023, the Swoosh has unveiled the Nike Calm slide, a new contender in the saturated space.
Unquestionably reminiscent of the adidas Yeezy Slide, the latest silhouette from NIKE, Inc. doesn't reinvent the lounge-ready “wheel”, opting for a decent traction solution, adequate cushioning and comfortable footbed, and one piece “roof” right behind the forefoot. The Calm slide arguably elevates the DNA of the existing (and highly successful) Nike Benassi, tapping into the fashion-forward aesthetic popularized and often-associated with Kanye West's proposition. A more robust midsole places the brand’s upcoming offering alongside the Jordan Sophia , although the one-piece construction resembles the aforementioned design from the Three Stripes. Lastly, outsoles make reference to the ever-important Air Force 1, coupling performance heritage with modern style.
There's no telling how the market will react to the new shoe, but what's evident from both the Nike Calm and Nike Gamma Force silhouettes is that the brand is watching its competition.
